I’ve got to be honest.

Expressing appreciation to my hubby wasn’t always my strong suit. Sometimes, the laundry mountain and overflowing inbox just drowned out those “thank you” whispers.

But guess what?

Shifting my focus to what I was grateful for and remembering why I admire my husband, even the tiny, everyday stuff, had an amazing and noticeable effect on our marriage. Enough so that my husband has mentioned a few times that he doesn’t mind doing things for me, even in challenging situations, because he knows how much I appreciate him.

And that’s what I hope you can find in your relationship!

So, if you’re just learning to practice gratitude, here are some ideas of things to be grateful for in a relationship:

Big things:

  • Unconditional love and support: Knowing someone loves you and has your back no matter what.
  • Shared values and vision: Having a partner who you align with on core principles and future goals.
  • Growth and self-improvement: Being challenged and encouraged to be the best version of yourself.
  • Laughter and joy: Having someone who makes you smile and laugh out loud, every day.
  • Physical and emotional intimacy: Feeling deeply connected on a physical and emotional level.
  • Financial stability and partnership: Building a secure future together and sharing successes and burdens.
  • Intellectual stimulation and conversation: Having someone you can engage in deep, meaningful conversations with.
  • Adventurous spirit and shared experiences: Exploring new things together and creating lasting memories.

Think about it like watering a plant. Every “thanks” for making coffee, for listening to your day, for

taking out the trash (because let’s be real, that’s a hero move) – it’s like a little sprinkle of appreciation. And guess what? Your “relationship plant” thrives! And I can tell you that one of the benefits of this practice is that I’m much less angry when my husband does something to upset me, because I haven’t been tallying everything he’s done wrong. Instead, I’ve been sending my brain many more signals about all he does right, which greatly outweighs the upsets.

Turns out, I might have unknowingly stumbled into a key part of this magic relationship ratio.
